Welcome to this week’s edition of The Macro Obsession.

In this issue:

  • The Chart of Doom

  • Junior devs need not apply

  • Nobody wants work slop

  • Vibe coding peaked

  • AI killed the Internet…

  • …No, venture capital killed the Internet

  • Where’d the gold go?

  • Goodbye dollar, hello gold

  • When I was twelve…

  • …It was better.

Another week of the government shutdown and another week of me waiting patiently—patiently—for economic data that was supposed to come out already. At least now, ADP is shifting to weekly reports to fill the gap. It kind of scratches the itch, but it’s just not the same stuff. I need the good stuff only the BLS can give me.

This week, I found myself enraptured by this image, sent to me by a friend. I think it really encapsulates how a lot of people feel about AI corporations at the moment. They certainly meant something when they sent it. I’ll let you imagine what that was while you stare at Sam Altman.

I’m calling it…

What we’re looking at: that’s Sam Altman…
